Principal Investigators
Catherine W. French, University of Minnesota
Professor and member of the faculty of University of Minnesota since 1984. She received her BCE from UMN and her MS and Ph.D. from UIUC. Research interests include the behavior of reinforced and prestressed concrete structural systems including effects of earthquake loadings. Other projects currently underway include investigation of lateral stability of precast through-girder pedestrian bridges, shear strength of prestressed bridge girders, development of rapid replacement bridge systems, and application of self-consolidating concrete (SCC) to precast bridge girders. She is an active member of several professional technical committees including chair of ACI 318 Subcommittee B Reinforcement and Development.
Sri Sritharan, Iowa State University
Associate Professor and member of the faculty of Iowa State University since 1999. He received his BS from U of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, his ME from the University of Auckland, NZ, and his Ph.D. from UCSD. Research interests include the behavior of reinforced and precast concrete structural systems and the development of numerical models to characterize their behavior. Other current projects underway include the affect of temperature on the boundary effects of bridge piles.
Ricardo R. López-Rodríguez, University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez
Professor and member of the faculty of UPR-Mayaguez since 1988. He received his BS and ME from UPR-Mayaguez and his Ph.D. from UIUC. Research interests include the effects of hurricanes and earthquakes on reinforced concrete structural systems. He is a member of numerous professional technical committees and is Secretary of Puerto Rico Seismic Commission.
Suzanne Nakaki-Dow, Principal, Nakaki-Bashaw Group, Inc.
Principal of Nakaki Bashaw Group and a licensed Structural Engineer in the
States of California and Oregon, she received her BS and MS degrees from
UCLA. Susie has been actively involved in structural research for over 20
years, including the design of the NSF PRESSS building tested at UCSD. In
addition to her design practice, she facilitates the transfer of technology
from research into practice through development of design seminars,
participation in code development (including membership on the ACI 318
Subcommittee H - Seismic Provisions) as well as consulting to product
developers and other engineers to provide information on recent research
that can be useful in practice.
